Realtime Notes is a series of Instagram poems written in rapid response to current events. The project began on 17 August 2017 as a way to respond to fast-moving times by challenging one of the last remaining conventions in poetry: the idea that it should always take time, both to write and read. The final poem was written on on 21 January 2021.

Volumes 1-3 plus the Epilogue contain over 1,000 poems spanning three and a half years, with plot lines including Brexit, Trump, Covid-19, the rise of #metoo, natural disasters, terrorist attacks, celebrity deaths, sporting occasions and humdrum events – captured in poems that range from melancholy to profane, angry to philosophical, slapstick to satirical.
